I poked through my pile of Wiki edit notifications, and on the checkpoint save 
ones I see the same behavior.  I checked the Checkpoint Extension web page 
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Checkpoint and no one has left a comment 
or other note about this.  I can't see anything in the Wiki configuration that 
might change this.

So.... I'm guessing (unless someone else knows of anything that can be tweaked) 
this is simply an artifact of using the Checkpoint save.  Unless someone wants 
to dip into the source code for MediaWiki a bit, I think it's something we'll 
live with for now.
