Dear Herr Mödritsch:

Unfortunately I don't speak German, I wish I did, however I got this
machine translation (albeit machine mangled) from the Babelfish site:

Ladies and Gentlemen! I would like to know whether I with open - Office
also files of the programs stated above to open and work on can.

Whether my in open - Office provided files in above programs to be
further processed can.

As it looks with the size of (memory requirements) of open Office. Does
it more or less need place as for example Office2010? Where can I call
demos?

In advance cordial thanks for the answer of my questions and friendly
greetings
Herbert Mödritsch

My understanding of this is as follows...

Herr Mödritsch would like to know if files originating from other
applications, such as Microsoft Office applications, and more can be
imported and edited in Open Office.

My reply:

Personally, my experience doing this with many applications in various
platforms is that the possible involvements are about limitless.

Simple text usually can be either imported, or copied and pasted across.

This is also likely to work with both: Bitmap graphics, although
sometimes it is necessary to use a screen grab (a last choice).

Another method is to load the file its native application and print to a
.PDF creator, then copy and paste piecemeal from the resulting .PDF.

Vector graphics and animation are more difficult. Interpretation of the
vectors and animation commands are akin to executable content, and
subject to whatever way the receiving application may choose to
interpret them. Again the possibilities vary from white to black.

In such cases, trial and error, with varying amounts of post-cleanup
that vary from file to file, part of a file to another part of the same
file. - Caveat Emptor!

Personally, I have created a Hyperlinked, structured .ODT file I sue as
a template for almost any writer task imaginable. However, when dealig
with vector graphics, I will likely do an initial import to Draw first,
sometimes importing forst to Inkscape, then exporting from Inkscape to
Draw and finally cleaning up the vectors.

On other occasions, I may simply import the bitmap to Draw, center it
and size to near the page borders, then lock its size and position, and
finally trace over it, using Bézier curves and more.

I then make a copy of that page, and remove the original bitmap.

Sometimes a vectorial rendering obtained in this manner may appear
misshapen or jagged. When I see this is likely, or if it actually
appears, I may replicate the offending shapes based on vectors created
with numerically defined regularity that would seem visually appropriate.

Vector group replication, comparable to the Autocad command "Array" can
be done by other methods.

Sometimes I do this using temporarily added drawing objects designed to
generate structured snap points.

Once the final vectors are OK, I can delete the temporary construction
lines, or better yet, make a copy and delete toe temporary stuff from
the copy, keeping the construction page in case of any later fixing
being needed that was not seen in the first distribution of the result.

I hope this is of some help, albeit in English
