After a bit more searching (could OpenOffice's bug report system be any
less friendly? :-)), I found that I'm not he only person who noticed this
problem... It's already known for more than TWO YEARS: see

This bug now has 23 (!!) votes, which unfortunately did not help in getting
it resolved.
