Yes, 5 clicks to add a feed seemed exessive. I'm not sure if 
automatically expanding all children 1 or two levels is what would be 
expected. Might it also be too much to unfold two or three levels with 
one click of the parent? I don't know. What would we see...

"Content" with all levels expanded is pretty long:

"Configuration" expansion might get quite long depending on number of 
modules installed. Below is just 2 levels expanded with my small set of 
modules.

  * preview placement
  * configure 'top nodes' block
  * configure 'who is online' block
  * help
 # modules
  * blog
  * drupal
  * image
  * import
  * node
  * search
  * statistics
  * story
  * user
  * watchdog
 # filters

I think the DHTML idea or the site map / overview idea might be more 
sensible, but I might still be convinced that the click - ploof - all 
children expanded idea might work.

You click "administer", "content" and *ploof* ... you see all direct and
indirect child menus of "content".

Anyway, personally I think nothing should be more than 4 clicks away.
