Do you worry that the code you write doesn't have a social conscience?  Our AIDS research group at Massachusetts General Hospital seeks a talented, motivated full-time programmer to join our software team which maintains and develops two AIDS simulation models.  The first models the course of the AIDS disease in a single patient; the second is an agent based transmission model which draws on information from the first model.  As a programmer in our group, you will have the opportunity to learn about HIV-related public health issues while using your software skills to help solve a truly global problem
 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following activities:  
 
- Develop new data analysis tools for researchers
- Maintain the current simulation models written in C++ through testing, debugging, and development of new modules
- Perform occasional systems administration tasks across multiple operating systems (primarily Windows and Linux)
- Assist researchers with software-related questions and problem solving
 
Qualifications:
 
Qualifications include but are not limited to:
 
- B.S. in Computer Science or related field with 2+ years relevant work experience
- OR
- M.S./MEng in Computer Science or equivalent 
- Proficiency in C++ or Java
- Quick to learn new technologies and scientific concepts
- Able to explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience
- Good interpersonal skills with ability to act professionally at all levels
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- One or more of the following desired but not required:
 - Interest in science and/or public health
 - Familiarity with Perl, Python, or similar scripting language
 - Experience working with complex inherited code
 - Linux systems administration and shell scripting
 - Experience in GUI development
 - Cluster computing experience
 - Web programming experience
 
- Quick to learn new technologies and scientific concepts
- Quick to understand complex model/software dynamics and able to explain them to a non-technical audience
- Good interpersonal skills, with ability to interact professionally at all levels 
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team essential  
 
One or more of the following desirable but not required:
- Linux systems administration and shell scripting
- Cluster computing experience
- Web programming experience
- COM programming with Excel
- Interest in public health and research
