FWIW, I was sharing Dale's confusion. We started the thread from the
issue of what Dossy gets to say here but I noticed some confusion
in several posts on both sides of the issue.

One way this seem to arise is when someone stops addressing the
particular person as an individual and refers to them as "typical"
of a class: typical programmer, typical phb, etc. I'd suggest 
this as a pattern to watch out for.
