I've worked for Corporate America for over 20 years. They're paying me a gazillion dollars, allow me to go to conferences, etc, so that I *will* voice my opinion. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm pretty passionate about my opinions. The managers don't want me to be a yes-woman. In fact, I've never, ever met a manager who wants yes-people around. Managers want new ideas and new perspectives - they don't always know how to get them. VPs and Directors don't understand why the employees are afraid of them. They don't understand why few people will tell them the unvarnished truth about what is going on. They don't want to be surprised later. They want to be able to do something before it becomes a crisis. In my experience, these people are always open to hearing about new ways of solving their problems.
