The Chrysler CIO had just under 2000 employees when I was there. When she became CIO of Daimler-Chrysler, she had about twice that many. Assuming an average project size of, what, 20 people (probably high), she had upwards of 200 projects. She could get hands on with them maybe one day a year each, if she didn't have anything else to do. > But isn't it simply a matter of changing your > "dashboard". Are they the conventional > project management metrics? Hmm. I think I'd start with resources, quality, scope, time. Number of people / person days per month, any other significant expenditures, chart showing number of acceptance tests and number running, number of stories defined, number implemented so far (line chart perhaps, running means acceptance test passed). I'd try to figure out some kind of roll-up drill down thing. But honestly, I don't know, I think the difference between your job, or mine, and that of CIO at Chrysler might be like the difference between a kohlrabi and a human being.
