Hmmm call me mercenary if you like but if I had a very inflexible programmer in a team, he would have to change or get out, since he does not help the team in any way or form.

Of course, I would try to get that person to be flexible in the first case.

But presumably those project managers who micromanage got there by some route. I don't believe that they were born believing that everyone else is incompetent. I know of a manager who has to fight with one of his people just to be flexible enough to deal with the slightest change in plans. If the team member is that resistant to change, then the manager must do something to ensure that what needs to be done is done.

So said Jim Standley on 2/9/2003 --------------------
Allergic to empowerment! Nice. That's exactly the message I got from
50-page MS Project plans. They seemed to say nobody could be trusted to
work more than a few minutes without guidance. Team members joked (darkly)
that they had to check the plan to see when they could use the bathroom.
I'm finding short iterations are helping our team immensely. The managers
have a feel for what's in an iteration and can trust the team to run at
least that long without excruciating detail.
