If the team want to become a XP team is OK, if you want they become XP
no or at least no so much. Who is mentoring them to XP? In this phase I
don't think a good idea to be in a different location. Also you are
quite new to XP so could be better to have some training all together.

It is not in the spirit of XP, you should prefer direct communication,
in your case what is near to a direct communication will work better.

I was a remote developer of several XP or agile teams, in my case what
worked well was a team chat room usable as text chat, to share files and
video/voice call when needed. To maintain the project update Atlassian
Confluence worked very well.
