It's easy to burn out pairing because it takes more energy than working solo. It's even worse because solo workers take microbreaks all the time, while pairs tend to work continuously for longer stretches. People that are new to pairing have it even worse than that, because doing something new takes more energy. Set expectations and time boxes accordingly. Go home early if you pair all day. Learning, katas, reasearch, blogging, email, and tweeting can be done with a pair partner, especially if you have had some time to get comfortable pairing. For example, recently I paired with someone leaving the team, to write their goodbye mail. -J
