Before we hand over the keys to some random Internet service, do we know
who they are/do we trust them?

I tried submitting a request to Yahoo! for a download of what I think is
just my personal data for the group, but I'd really like to have a full
export of the entire group's message contents in hand _before_ giving
access to anyone who would have the privilege to destroy any data before
we have a backup copy.

Maybe others feel comfortable doing so before having such a backup in
hand, in which case, I'll defer to other people's judgement here.
