Yes ... which is why my note you quoted was against advocating against good and valuable practices.

I don't think I've seen that. I am exceedingly opposed to coercion, but that just means that advocating for things needs to be done with a bit of style, gentleness, curiousity ... things I'm at best only slightly good at.

Of course you're supposed to work to change the environment, just exactly as any coach would. I am wondering who suggested otherwise, and what they really meant. I have a feeling that you may have misread something ...
