You "set up [your] question up the way [you] wanted it conveyed", 
based upon the way you would interpret it. And your 
interpretation is based on your assumptions. Different 
experiences and knowledge mean different assumptions. You were 
not wrong, nor were they necessarily wrong.

If you did not get the results you wanted, what should you do? 
Defend your position, do the same thing next time, and hope that 
by telling them (and everyone else) that they misunderstood you 
they will never misunderstand you again? Or, learn something from 
it and try something different next time, even though you weren't 
wrong?
