Software book recommendations...

Slowly the bookshops around me have been descending into a morass of
"Publishers Sale" Coffee Table picture books and "For Idiot Dummies"
guides.

It is now seldom worth browsing them for an inspiring, "must read" and
world view changing books in software.

Sigh! I have to let go of my "must first hold it in my hands before I
buy" malaise and venture into the world of online purchasable books.

What recommendations do you folk have?
