For me, the most impact came from the following books:
  * The Pragmatic Programmer - Helps you see all programming as something
more than just writing code.
  * Code Complete - Common sense encapsulated.
  * Object Oriented Software Construction - Introduces Design by Contract
  * Thinking Forth - About thinking, not programming.
 This desperately needs updating.
  * C++ in Action - Shows that clean coding can even be done in C++ with the
windows api.
