Sorry to make you cry.... but we're just in the process of ordering
one of these...

The nine blade servers

Each blade features:

* 32 GB DDR2-800 RAM

* 73 GB 15000rpm SAS drive

* Dual AMD Opteron 2427 processors, each with:

    # 6 x 2.2GHz cores each with 512kB L2 cache

    # 6MB L3 Cache

That gives us a total of 108 cores and 288GB RAM.

Why?

Because we are building an ever growing number of distinct products
off the same code base... so ye average developer is developing with a
single product / deliverable in mind, but may with a single check-in
can break any one of lots of product / deliverable / toolchain
combination.

So the time from checkin to all products built, all static analysis
checks done, all unit tests run, to feedback given to developer who
broke it, is becoming a critical productivity driver.
