Is this the year that all developers should learn JavaScript?

I know enough JavaScript to read JavaScript code, but not enough to write
and app without glancing at a reference all the time...

So I can't really evaluate what this guy is saying... Is he talking through
his Hat? Or should I be taking a much much closer look at JavaScript?
