Sorry--that will only give you an idea of the traffic on an individual
connection--not let you generate the thousands of connections.  To be
honest, I haven't done this in so long myself, I wouldn't know where to
begin.  Obviously, internally, we use massive test harnesses that we've
spent millions on; probably not an option for you.

Hi Lads,

I'd like to test my loadbalancer's connection creation speed with
different setups (L4, L7, different number of real servers, etc).

I'm wondering of you have any good method to test this.

For example I'd like to test the TCP session creation delay and the
delay to get an SMTP banner back. I'd like to create 1-10-100k
connections and check how much time it took.

I guess it's quite simple with nc or other simple command line tools
from Linux, I just don't want to re-invent these tools :)
