Hi all. Everything described in Pete's web page is true (this guy created SLB and GSLB at Cisco in 1995, he knows his stuff :-) ), there are a lot of caveats in Active/Active design. There are some solutions to browser DNS caching using BGP route health injection or BGP conditionnal advertisement on front end routers (to overcome the dead A record problem), and complete persistance can be achieved with HTTP services (using source IP-based persistance for DNS isn't reliable because of load balanced resolvers coming into the DNS resolution process with different ip addresses for subsequent DNS requests coming from a specific client). TTL's are still not honored by most DNS resolvers in Asia, even here in France I had a lot of issues with a major ISP :) I can send you a technical guide (tech deep dive) if you want to implement a full - reliable solution. Just tell me. regards, Surya --- En date de : Mer 27.5.09, Dane Ruyle <[email protected]> a écrit : De: Dane Ruyle <[email protected]> Objet: [load balancing] 2 Colo's À: "Load Baalancing" <[email protected]> Date: Mercredi 27 Mai 2009, 21h00 #yiv1865253447 .hmmessage P { margin:0px;padding:0px;} #yiv1865253447 { font-size:10pt;font-family:Verdana;} Hi all, I'd like to hear your input on the best way to bring a second collocation facility online. We are a SAAS company. Basically, our service is all tied to a domain name; the www record. It was my intent to use 2 A records to the WWW lookup. Then, use GSLB to control the traffic. This works fine when both sites are up and running, but what happens when one goes down - rely on the built-in failover mechanism is DNS (the second A record)? There's a GSLB Page of Shame http://www.tenereillo.com/GSLBPageOfShame.htm Would love to hear your input as I am going to be bringing a second one online.
