I guess it's too early to get figures on how systems built to
agile approaches fare in comparison.  We have recently
heard (unless I'm getting mu forums confused) how the 
traditional fixed price bidding gets the winner of the
tender loads of money - not off the original contract which
is a loss, but off all the change requests that come in
after the requirements are signed off.

Where this is the case, it is hardly surprising that the majority
of the cost occurs after initial delivery.

Of course, there will be other factors to take into account, 
such as the first feedback from the users that doesn't come 
until after first delivery, whereupon they get their first
opportunity to say why the system is no use to them...

I'm sure much of the overall cost of the system will still be
after deployment, specially if first deployment is 4 weeks into
a six month project.

In short, the figures may no longer hold true, but it is too
early to tell.

(Hmm - release early, so the total cost will be a lot less...
 there's an argument to try, when persuading customers.
