Thanks Chris.  That's what I'm doing now.  I was thinking, though,
that something that was in such dire need of documentation might be a
code smell that someone else had run into..  That maybe it would make
more sense to refactor it into something more "self-documenting" than
to spend a lot of time documenting the code.
