What is the best natural language for the code-base?

My experience tells me that the natural language choice can impact
significantly the code comprehension.
I find that reading but especially writing code in English can be very
challenging for non-native speakers.
On the other hand, mixing some other language with API written in English is
not very pleasing and Id imagine it can adversely affect the comprehension
as well.
So, if a team is working on a proprietary, non-globalizes solution, should
they use English or a local language?
