RE: Refactoring and clone consolidation

As far as I understand, refactoring tools do need to "understand" the 
semantics of the source language, despite the compilation's target 
language (JVM bytecodes, MSIL, x86 machine language, etc). Therefore, 
refactoring at the IL level would require a massive redesign effort, I 
guess.

Would there be any mileage in adopting the c++ into managed code, 
converting into IL, refactoring as, say c# and then back?
It sounds horrendous as a general proposition, but perhaps for some 
focused need it might work.

I get tired of looking at the latest ballyhooed advances in refactoring 
only to find out that it doesn't support the language that needs 
refactoring tools the most.
