yeah, around 3/2002 jfcunit was the only halfway active thing you could
find on the 'net. I was going to build on top of it but never got a
response from the authors, and its design didn't lend well to the level
of abstraction I wanted to achieve. I was originally interested in
experimenting with record/playback, since my QA team had recently been
through an intense grilling of Mercury, Segue and Rational about their
automated tools. They were all lacking in some way important to the
project at hand.
A scripted control of a UI still needs a sound underlying layer,
something a little higher level than raw mouse moves and button clicks,
which is also the level you need for TDD of a UI.
I use the UI drivers more for the "spec filling" end of the UI design
(although I've been experimenting with beanshell of late for more
interactive tweaking of the visual design end of things).
