Hello,

I'm a long time lurker in this group. Recently I tried reusing
Dave Astels's tests in _TDD:A Practical Guide_ to create a database
editor with a Tcl/Tk GUI. I liked the result enough to plan to
report on them at the Tcl 2005 conference. The talk is called

TFUI in Tcl/Tk - Exploiting the Humble Dialog Box

My abstract is at

     <http://www.tcl.tk/community/tcl2005/abstracts/testing/TFUI.txt>

I've uploaded a much too long draft paper to the files section of
this group

I've tried to incorporate several of the things I've learned
lurking here and from other sources. I suggest a testing pattern

---
TFUI Testing Pattern for State Testing

1. Augment the Model to provide the feature functionality (writing
the tests first).
2. Provide a way to invoke that functionality through the Presenter
(writing the test first).
3. Add the required GUI elements to the View (writing the tests
first).
4. Replace the Presenter invocation in the test with a View
invocation.
5. Add behavior to the GUI elements to invoke the Presenter and make
the test(s) pass.
6. Examine the GUI visually.
---

that differs a bit from the Presenter First pattern used when
Interaction Testing.

I'd be interested in what people think. The initial sections of
the paper discusses the ideas. The last (and longest) part is my
attempt at documenting "stream of consciousness" TDD sessions for
the first 17 Movie List tests. I need to learn to make my thoughts
as focused and interesting as other published reports of TDD
sessions.

If you have trouble with the direct URL for the paper, you should
be able to get it from the files section.

   Thanks,

       Neil Ostrove
