Hi Cory, in the last month I also had a play with TDDing Excel with .net.
I found the following article very useful:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/office/understanding/excel/codesamples/default.asp
x?pull=/library/en-us/odc_vsto2003_ta/html/excelobj.asp

Forgive my ignorance but what is the Fitnesse list?

Phran

Subject: TDDing Excel

Over on the Fitnesse list they've been working on a .NET port. I threw
my hat in to get FolderRunner running, which includes a
SpreadsheetRunner that reads in an Excel spreadsheet to run FIT against.
For the Java port, they use POI to read it in, and the thought was that
it should be much easier in the .NET environment.

Anyway, I decided to tackle writing the Runner using TDD. I've made it
through the whole app without having to view the Excel file once. The
nice thing is that they almost have a Reveal() because you can set the
app's visibility programatically (which turned out to be interesting
when I had 6 instances running that I didn't know about).

Anyway, I've made it through reading in the text, and posted a short
article on it so far. I'll be finishing the Fitnesse stuff with it this
week, and will post the rest of the experience as I finish it then.

Thanks to you all on the TFUI list for planting in my head the idea of
TDDing an Excel spreadsheet!

Cory
