Yes, well, the curses back-end is actually a full simulation of a GUI, with movable windows and so forth. Not at all what one would expect from a normal curses application. We've been talking about writing a back-end which only is a "logical" equivalent, and that doesn't actually use the full coordinates etc., but I don't think it'll happen any time soon. > Anyway, I was all set to write a curses widgets module for python, > but maybe I could improve anygui's curses one (or perhaps write a different > anygui backend for more complex curses). Maybe. You'd have to consider how you'd specify the logical structure of your GUI, so that it could be displayed in the other back-ends but still be amenable to standard curses use. I guess it could be possible. Another possibility is that you write another front-end which has two back-ends: Curses and Anygui. :) > But, of course, that depends on how active anygui development is. However, I can't give any guarantees that I'll have much more free time next semester :] One of my plans for the near future (for Anygui) is to write some up-to-date documentation, which should (hopefully) make it easier to do any small development tasks one might be inclined to do in the future. > or if he intends to keep developing anygui when he's done, or even > if there are other developers. In theory, there are. Not sure how many of the developers still have time for the project, as there hasn't been much going on here lately. I still have hopes for a complete release based on the current code in CVS, but I don't know when it'll happen. It may be that I get into the spirit at one time or another and just whip together an alpha release over a weekend or something -- who knows? > Also, the latest message archived for this list dates from August. Indeed. There hasn't been any steady development for quite a while. Too bad things petered out before we actually got to a second release; I guess I/we were perhaps a bit ambitious. But I do think there is still hope... (But then again, I may be a bit optimistic in the matter ;) > So, how's anygui doing? :) > > Please Cc: me as I haven't (yet) joined the list. Right.
