Also tried a list of strings for a value of include_dirs and even copied sqlite3.h to /usr/include. Still no luck. Like you say, probably a gcc on FreeBSD thing. Did you copy it into the right directory, i. e. alongside setup.py, *not* > into src/ ? Yes.
