I'm not too sure it is a "very small" ERP system. The issue as I understand it is the complexity of financial instruments. If you are doing real assets (e.g., stock) it should be straight-forward. Bonds, when bought as an asset seem similar, but since they are debt, there are differences that may be beyond a the simple ledger that's provided with most ERP's. Then, if you permit derivative trading, all bets are off, since those are quite complex. If, on the other hand, you are going to wrap just mutual fund transactions, it might be a simple asset-management application. Even if the broker cooperates and provides access via XML (or other protocol), each broker probably has unique interface requirements, leading to a large and complex set of interfaces, one for each broker, and possibly separate interfaces for separate products.
