Owens Technology, Inc. in Palo Alto, California is looking for the 
right person to fill a position that includes both UNIX systems 
administration and software engineering.

About Owens Technology, Inc:

Owens Technology, Inc. is developing solar cell technology for 
photovoltaic solar panels. We are an R&D start-up devoted to 
bringing new ideas to consumers through superior technology, 
accelerated lab development, and keen marketing.

Responsibilities:

- Administer UNIX systems and TCP/IP network, ensuring system and 
network security and stability.

- Administer email servers and clients.

- Support Linux, Mac, and Windows clients.

- Zope / Plone administration.

- Work with small team to develop and integrate workflow, data 
acquisition and analysis, and content management systems for 
laboratory research and industrial production based on Plone / 
Zope / Python.

- Integrate and administer database back-ends for intranet and 
extranet.

- Integrate data acquisition, sensor interfaces, instrumentation and 
process control systems. 

- Develop data conversion, storage, and communication systems. 

- Create documentation for systems and processes.

The ideal candidate will be hands-on, detail oriented, capable of 
working with a results-oriented team, and managing processes 
efficiently. 

Essential skills & experience:

- BS/MS or equivalent in science or engineering. 

- Programming in Python, PERL, C and shell scripting (C++, Java, 
TK/TCL programming helpful). 

- 3-5 years UNIX system administration experience. Linux and BSD. 

- TCP/IP network administration, routing, security, NAT, firewalls, 
VPN. 

- SMTP, IMAP, HTTP (Apache).

- Macintosh and Windows networking.

- Experience with web publishing and content management systems.

- HTML, XML, Javascript, DB-backed web development.

- Object-oriented design and programming.

- Version control, team software development.


Helpful:

- Zope / Plone.

- Linux driver architecture.

- Experience in a laboratory environment. 

- RDBMS, SQL, PostgreSQL.

- Data acquisition and instrument control.

- Workflow management.

- Open source development.
