This is due to the fact that 2.9 was never supported by wxGlade. Therefore the radio box "wxWidgets compatibility" has only two entries: 2.8 and 3.0. So with 2.9 the application does not know which one to select. When you run 0.7.2 with your version, what version do you see in the Properties window for the application? I would guess 2.8. I would recommend to switch to either wxPython Phoenix (4.0.0) or version 3.0.2. When you have a look at the download numbers on Sourceforge, you can see that from the old versions only 2.8.12.1 and 3.0.2.0 are commonly used.
