your thougts are correct. We share our opinion.

But the important point is that I am not responsible here. The
maintainers of wxPython tell me which compiler I have to use.
This is quite far away from "open".

Of course wxWidgets itself can be compiled with a lot of different (and
open) compilers even on Windows. But the wxPhoenix build script doesn't
support them out of the box.

And all that work just to check if a bug I found depends on the used
OS. I have never participated to a project where it was so hard to
contribute to.
