Program hangs when trying to call SetBitmap on wx.StaticBitmap after Mainloop has started

Basically exactly what the title says, I have some python code for displaying QR codes in a wxpython program and when i try to do so python just hangs and i cant figure out why. It seems fine with StaticBitmaps defined at the start of the program but once the Mainloop function has been called i cant do it.
