Olimex Active electrodes with gel or not?

Are those active electrodes that are currently available at Olimex for the smt version meant to be used with gel or not? Also a question: will I be able to get correct signal when I only connect one channel electrodes to the OpenEEG SMT version? I have used modular EEG before that, with sponge electrodes. I was in the mailing list under the name Ivan before. So I purchased the smt version with active electrodes hoping the signal will be better.
