blas and lapack problems

Hi, all:

I have problem configure the mpb software in my
computer. Previously I used SuSE 9.3, 9.2, 9.1 and
Mandrake 10.0. I successfully installed MPB on all
these platforms. Recently I updated my Linux to SuSE
10.0, but then MPB cannot be successfully installed.
It always said "Configure error. Blas was not found".
But I checked the /usr/lib directory and both
libblas.a and liblapack.a are there. Later on I tried
Mandriva 2006 and SuSE 10.1. The problem persists. I'd
like to know how to solve this problem? 

The following is a typical configure for my Mandriva
2006 system:

gcc: 4.0.1, with GCC 3.3.6 also installed (run with
gcc-3.3.6)
g77 3.3.6 (run with g77, because for 4.0.1 version,
g77 is renamed as gfortran)
fftw 2.1.5
libctl 2.2
blas 3.0
lapack 3.0
guile 1.6.7
readline 5.0 (libreadline5-5.0-2mdk)
hdf5 1.6.4
