I see you're working on RH9. On that system gnome2 is standard, isn't it? So I'd like to ask how you installed gnome1.4, did you use binaries or compiled it yourself? If you used *.rpm's don't forget all the nessessary devel-packages. You could also send some lines more of your debug output, so that anyone can clearly see your error and not only the "place" (sorry I didn't find a better word) where the error happened. If you want a quick-solution, try to rerun configure with the option "--enable-gnome=no", so the gnome-related stuff will not be compiled, this sould work, but if you do want gnome support, send a little bit more output.
