initializing scigraphica

Is there some way of specifying a startup file for scigraphica?

The problem i have is that when scigraphica starts, it doesn't know
where the gtk module is.

So i'd like to provide a snippet of python to tell it (by modifying
sys.path or something like it).

[For reference, i'm using python 2.3, which does know where the
gtk module is (after i installed it), and which in any event
pays attention to the PYTHONPATH environment variable. scigraphica
does not seem to pay attention to the PYTHONPATH variable (and why
should it, i guess?). I built everything with gcc 3.3 on redhat 7.3,
including the gtk extras package. I'm using version 0.8.0.]

Thanks in advance for any clues or advice or criticism (if this is
a FAQ or explained on the first page of some manual, please let me know).
