	Folks,

Just to close the loop on this for anyone looking at the list archives
in the future... Adrian (many thanks to him!) and I have spent a fair
amount of time tracking this problem down (microscopic text on plots).
Fortunately, the issue has nothing to do with GtkExtra. Read on if
you're interested or if you've had similar problems.

It turns that Gnome and KDE are in the very early stages of working on
some interoperability. This work has shown up in each of the latest
releases of their underlying widgets. The Gnome release, of course,
affects GTK+ and glib. For Mandrake users, this includes the versions
in MDK 10.0 and 10.1. There are still some issues with the early
interoperability work, particularly in the area of desktop preferences
and settings being pushed down to X at the appropriate times.

Well, in certain (not infrequent) circumstances, especially if you run
Gnome/GTK+ apps while using KDE for your desktop/wm, you can have
situations where the KDE settings/preferences have been put in to
effect, but not the Gnome/GTK+ settings/preferences. One of the effects
of this can be that any GTK+ applications will have uninitialized font
settings, and all the text in those apps will come out microscopic.

The fix is to be sure that settings/prefs for both environments have
been put in place when you start up your desktop. I know how to do this
if you're running KDE (which I use): put a link to
"gnome-settings-daemon" in your ~/.kde/Autostart folder. This will kick
it off when KDE starts up, the gnome/GTK+ settings will be applied, and
life is good.

I don't know how to do this in the other direction (running Gnome, need
to get the KDE settings applied), nor do I know if it's a problem that
way, because I don't run Gnome as my regular desktop environment. If
anybody else knows these things, please post a follow-up.

Finally I can get back to developing my app...!

-Al
