Changing attributes of lines & symbols in a dataset?

	It looks like we can change attributes of lines and symbols for an
entire dataset, but not for just parts of a dataset (i.e., not just for
one "segment" of the plot).  

	Is that true?

	If so, has anybody played with using multiple datasets on a plot, one
per plotted segment, in order to gain control over the attributes for
just a single segment?  The symbols at each point would overlap, looking
like just a single symbol, I'm hoping.

	Just wondering if anyone has done this?
