I don't think this is the cause of your problem, but I have had problems with previous editions of Word when changes to Endnote citations are tracked. Excuse the lack of technical language, but I'll try to explain what I believe is the problem. If you turn on track changes and then delete an Endnote citation, Word doesn't know whether this change will be accepted or rejected. If the change is accepted, the Endnote reference list needs updating, if the change is rejected, the Endnote reference list should stay as is. Caught in a Schrodinger's cat style existential dilemma, Word starts working very slowly or shuts down. I always warn colleagues NOT to track changes to Endnote citations - if you are tracking changes in a document and delete an entire sentence with an associated Endnote citation, do not delete the citation - instead put it in square brackets or highlight it - once all changes have been accepted or rejected you can turn track changes OFF and then delete the necessary citations. As I said, I don't know if this is your problem, but it is certainly something to be aware of. I had hoped that Word 2007 would not have this problem.
