I use 1.8.1 on a PPPoE ADSL connection and I don't recall having to hit 
connect or anything like that to get the connection to run 
automatically. I must admit the system hasn't been rebooted since around 
the 20th of January as it has been like a rock. However, during the 
configuration phase, I had a few reboots for testing things and I never 
had an issue with PPPoE not being brought up automatically.
