With the current situation of professionalism in CF, Gary is bang on,
a combination of academic qualifications and certification is best.
Any previous CF experience/exposure will obviously help, as would a
computer science and/or investigatory background.

Additionally, assignment based coursework/learning may be more
effective (contrary to exam based learning), depending on module
content and actual assignment topics (how realistic are the
assignments to real life investigations and problems).

Be warned however, like many other fields, none of these things will
automatically guarantee you success. Also some certifications will
require you to have had a certain 'amount' of academic and/or work
experience, etc.

My advice for you would be to do a short course to provide yourself
more of an insight into CF, determine if it really is a field where
you can find an area which you would like to devote your working life.
CF work is often portrayed as glamorous, fast and exciting, whereas it
is often the complete opposite.
