Theoretically yes. In practice however I think it is too difficult to 
figure out how to get a non-supported device (i.e. brand new) working, 
without the help of usb_modeswitch upstream.

That basically means that whatever it is that is required, is included 
in the newer usb_modeswitch_data version  ;-)
