Certainly enlightening. I've never gotten that deep although I have in fact seen it referred to as both fixed and reserved in various implementations. I believe either is probably acceptable. While incorrect may have been overstating the case, static however is definitely misleading as it is commonly used to refer to a manually assigned address which is in no way what is happening. Ironically, those 'static' IPs which you pay extra for from your ISP are normally provided by using exactly the feature we're discussing. :) So much for industry standards. later...
