To clarify, I began to notice this behavior when doing SVN builds but 
wasn't sure if it was something wonky with my second adsl connection I 
use for test boxes. I certainly did not see it in a stable release until 
2.1.8. That particular connection is on fast path whereas my main daily 
connection is interleaved. The fast path has low latency but if you get 
any errors then interleaved is the better choice. Interleaved doesn't 
add enough latency to even be noticeable with VOIP, not even with a VOIP 
provider's server thousands of miles away.

That would explain it. Nice to see my fast path connection up for more 
than 24 hours now on those boxes. The second adsl connection is from a 
reseller that allows multiple dynamic ip's. I started using a switch 
between two to three test boxes and the bridged modem in the last few 
days, it works perfectly but bandwidth is shared of course. I don't know 
why I hadn't though of this before.
