Hi Matt,

Thanks for the info. I have a dedicated pc for the ftp server and video surveillance, but it will be replaced by a dvr, so the ftp server will go off and I’m looking for a solution before that change will take place.
I guess I’ll find another pc on my network to host the ftp server.

Regards,

Josef

Running _any_ unnecessary services on a firewall is generally considered a bad idea. When you run such a service on the firewall itself you broaden the security footprint on the very device you want to have the smallest security footprint so that it can do its job of protecting the rest of the network. The recommended configuration is to place a server node in the orange zone and configure forwarding rules appropriate for FTP. If you don't have an orange zone configured on your IPcop, second best would be to poke a hole to a node in the green zone. IPcop 2.x has pre-defined services so all you have to do is select "FTP" from the drop down list of ports you want to forward, give it the internal IP, and you're set.

If you have a linux flavored machine behind your firewall you might want to look at vsftp or proftp packages. If Windows is more your speed, look at FileZilla. In either case, these are not meant for use on IPcop itself, but a second computer sitting behind the IPcop.
