Pfsense and Opnsense besides having a huge learning curve, will allow multiple WAN connections and there is really no limit to how many subnets you build except number of available NICS. You must feed these power though if you want a lot of throughput through the firewall to multiple subnets etc. Pay attention to their recommended hardware. A 2ghz P4 or better is a good place to start but multi-core is preferred. You can get them in 64 bit versions as well. In stock form, IPCop will only see up to 4GB of ram and is 32 bit only which in itself is not a huge problem. IPCop is not yet IPv6 ready as Opnsense and Pfsense are, neither my isp nor any of my VOIP providers support IPv6 yet anyway. Honestly I like Opnsense more than PFsense from which it forked. Opnsense forked from Pfsense because Netgate bought Pfsense and shut everyone else out. Pfsense itself was a fork from Monowall and Monowall's author endorses Opnsense as the worthy successor to Monowall. Opnsense took my suggestion of replacing the old ramdisk filesystem for flash installs and using TMPFS since the BSD kernel incorporated this far superior ram type filesystem in it's kernel albeit much later than Linux did. Opnsense also did a lot of work cleaning up the horibbly messy PHP in Pfsense. Since IPcop is about as open as one can get since it is not corporate owned. Opnsense actually IS from Decisio but adheres to being Open and Free and they do listen to the community as I proved with my imput. What will you use your firewall for? SOHO or something heavier? Do you need multiple wan and/or IDS (I really find IDS's such as Snort to be useless and false alarming but Opnsense has it). How many subnets? IPCop already supports 1 WAN, LAN, WLAN and DMZ out of the box and will run on older x86 hardware.
