CERT engages in cutting-edge rese= arch and development, helps organizations and individuals protect =0D their systems, and provides robust training and education programs. Our f= ocus is on ensuring that software developers, internet security experts, = network and system administrators, and others are able to resist, recogni= ze, and recover from attacks on networked systems.=0D =0D As a member of the Engineering Team in the CERT Network Situational Aware= ness group, the candidate selected for this position will participate in = efforts to develop new software tools for monitoring large-scale computer= networks and analyzing traffic on those networks. The selected candidate= will participate in software design, =0D implementation and testing, and support customer deployments of software = developed by the engineering team. The candidate will work with the =0D engineering team lead to contribute to the overall direction of the engin= eering team, participate in key architectural decisions, and serve in a t= echnical leadership role on selected projects. JOB REQUIREMENTS --------------------------------------------------- Education/Training:=0D MS in computer science, software engineering, or a related quantitative f= ield of study with one year of applicable experience.=0D Experience:=0D Applicable experience in the design and implementation of complex, secure= , mission critical software systems, including experience in:=0D - C or C++ development in a Unix environment, including network programmi= ng (at least one year of professional experience)=0D - Scripting in Python, Perl or equivalent scripting environment=0D - Development of performance-critical, security-related and/or security-c= ritical applications=0D - Design and documentation of the architecture of complex multi-component= systems=0D - Development of TCP/IP related stack or network protocols=0D =0D Skills/Abilities:=0D - Experience with development tools such as: gcc, gdb, automake, autoconf= and cvs=0D - Understanding of carrier level communications=0D - Understanding of basic computer systems, and network, database and appl= ication security issues=0D - Ability to apply sound software engineering practices to program develo= pment (e.g., systematic approach to developing and documenting code, vers= ion control and configuration management, inspections and thorough testin= g)=0D - Excellent written and verbal communication skills=0D - Excellent reasoning and problem-solving skills=0D - Ability to work effectively without close supervision=0D =0D Mobility:=0D Sedentary in an office setting with some mobility, i.e., able to travel t= o various locations within the SEI and CMU community as well as travel to= customer sites.=0D =0D Environmental Conditions:=0D Close contact with computer for extended periods of time=0D =0D Mental:=0D Ability to work meticulously with careful attention to detail; ability to= meet deadlines while working on multiple tasks – sometimes under =0D pressure and with shifting priorities; ability to deal collaboratively, d= iplomatically, and successfully with customers, co-workers and other =0D professional colleagues, managers, and staff; ability to grasp the big pi= cture, direction, and goals of an effort; ability to quickly learn new =0D procedures, techniques, approaches, etc.=0D =0D Other:=0D Candidate must be able to pass a background investigation, obtain a TS/SC= I security clearance, and be a US citizen.=0D =0D Essential Functions:=0D (1) participate in the design, implementation, and maintenance of softwar= e tools in support of customer deployments and network traffic studies.
