Position Summary:=0D
The CERT&reg; Program engages in cutting-edge research and development an=
d develops and transitions disciplined approaches to improve the survivab=
ility and resiliency of the DoD, federal civilian agencies, private secto=
r organizations and their networked information systems.=0D

The CERT Network Situational Awareness (NetSA) group supports internal an=
d external customers by developing cutting-edge analysis techniques and t=
ools for regular operational use in high-impact environments.  The operat=
ional support analyst will advise analysts at customer operations =0D
centers on analysis issues, prepare customer-focused analysis studies, an=
d work with customers to develop requirements NetSA analysis and engineer=
ing efforts.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education/Training:=0D
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or scientific/technical field wit=
h 8 years experience, or equivalent; Masters Degree in Computer Science o=
r scientific/technical field with 5 years experience, or equivalent.=0D

Experience:=0D
Professional experience should include 5 or more years of network securit=
y analysis experience in a large-scale network defense operations center,=
 or as a system administrator support a large network, and 2 or more year=
s experience in an advisory or a technical leadership role. =0D

This experience should include contributing to analysis reporting, as wel=
l as at least 5 years of programming experience (see skills below).=0D
=0D
Skills/Abilities:=0D
&#149;Broad understanding of network, database and application security i=
ssues=0D
&#149;Expertise in one major network security areas:  incident handling, =
network traffic analysis, forensics, vulnerability assessment, network =0D
auditing, etc.=0D
&#149;Theoretical knowledge of and practical experience with various Inte=
rnet protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, BGP, TLS)=0D
&#149;Deep knowledge of multiple modern operating systems (e.g., Linux, S=
olaris, Windows 2000+, BSD, OSX)=0D
&#149;Ability to develop scripts and applications using shell scripting o=
r high-level programming languages such as Perl or Python, employing soun=
d software engineering practices=0D
&#149;Ability to function in the role of a consultant=0D
&#149;Ability to define and implement an analytical study or investigatio=
n and report on findings=0D
&#149;User or implementation level experience with a subset of the follow=
ing technologies: IDS (e.g., Snort, RealSecure), IPS, SIM/SEM (e.g, ArcSi=
ght, eSecurity), network mapping, vulnerability scanners (e.g., Nessus), =
firewalls, and routers (Cisco)=0D
&#149;Planning and organizational skills; strong problem solving skills; =

(1) provide direct support to customer operational centers in the form of=
 on-site consulting, training, development of analytical products and eli=
citation of requirements.=0D

(2) perform analytical studies on customer data-sets; document findings i=
n reports, presentations, and technical exchanges.=0D

(3) design, prototype, and transition analytical techniques and tools app=
ropriate for operational use in situational awareness.=0D

(4) contribute to the broader security community; conduct peer-review; pa=
rticipate in meetings and presentations; give talks as appropriate.
